Which Dreame should you choose for carpets and rugs?
A carpet poses two different problems to a robot vacuum, and most buyers only see one.
The answer
To vacuum inside the fibres, you need power: at least 25,000 Pa. To avoid soaking the carpet while mopping, the robot has to detect it and lift its mop.
The L50s Pro Ultra (749 €) solves both: 30,000 Pa, liftable mops, anti-tangle brush.
Problem no. 1: vacuuming inside the fibres
On hard floors, dust is sitting on top: it is picked up effortlessly, and 13,000 Pa is enough. In a carpet, it is caught in the fibres: it has to be literally torn out.
This is the only use case where the pascal race makes sense. Below 25,000 Pa, the robot leaves with the surface dust and leaves the rest behind. Above that, every extra thousand pascals still shows — unlike on hard floors, where the gain drops to nothing past 20,000 Pa.
Add the brush: in a carpet, the fibres retain hair, which wraps around the axle all the faster. A HyperStream anti-tangle brush is not a convenience, it is a necessity.
Problem no. 2: not soaking it
A robot that mops and climbs onto a carpet with a damp mop soaks the carpet. That was the great flaw of robots a few years ago.
Two solutions coexist at Dreame today:
- Mop lifting (X, L, D and Matrix series) — the robot detects the carpet and raises the mops before climbing onto it. Simple and effective.
- AutoSeal protection (Aqua series) — the AquaRoll roller is physically isolated from the carpet. A different approach, since there is no mop to lift but a roller.
The climbing trap. A thick carpet is an obstacle: a robot that only clears 2 cm will get stuck in front of a long-pile rug. The L50 Ultra AE, excellent otherwise (28,000 Pa for 599 €), is limited to 2 cm — the lowest in the range. Measure the thickness of your carpets before choosing.

The best compromise — L50s Pro Ultra (749 €)
30,000 Pa, HyperStream brush, liftable mops, 4 cm of climbing. It ticks all three carpet boxes. It is our default recommendation.
If you mop as much as you vacuum — Aqua10 Ultra Roller Complete (799 €)
30,000 Pa too, and AutoSeal protection that isolates the roller from the carpet. The continuously rinsed roller never spreads dirty water back onto the hard floor around the carpet.
If you have very thick carpets — X60 Pro Ultra Complete (1,299 €)
42,000 Pa and 10 cm of climbing: it gets onto any carpet, including the thickest, and tears out what is in the fibres. It is expensive, but this is the only case where the X60 Pro is objectively justified.
Mistakes to avoid
Looking at power without looking at climbing. A 30,000 Pa robot that cannot get onto your carpet does not vacuum your carpet. The two figures go together.
Believing that "carpet boost" mode makes up for a lack of power. Every Dreame raises suction when it detects a carpet — but a boost from a base of 13,000 Pa does not catch up with 30,000 Pa.
Forgetting to measure. The thickness of your carpets and the height of your thresholds are the only two figures in the comparison you can check at home, with a ruler. Do it.

How much suction do you need for a thick carpet?
At least 25,000 Pa. Below that, the robot passes over the carpet without genuinely lifting what is caught in the fibres. On hard floors, by contrast, 13,000 Pa is comfortably enough — it is the carpet that dictates the power.
Will the robot soak my carpets while mopping?
No, if it detects the carpet and lifts its mop. The whole current range does this. On the Aqua series, the mechanism differs: AutoSeal protection isolates the roller from the carpet. Older models without lifting do genuinely soak carpets.
Can a robot climb onto a thick carpet?
Climbing height decides that. A 3 cm long-pile rug demands at least that much climbing. The L50 Ultra AE, limited to 2 cm, will get stuck in front of certain thick carpets — check that line before buying.
Should you disable mopping when there are carpets?
Not necessary on recent models: the robot maps the carpets and lifts the mop automatically before climbing onto them. You can also set carpets as no-mop zones in the app.
