Our verdict8,4/10

The Dreame L50 Ultra AE posts high suction for its price — 28,000 Pa at 599 € — but it is also the most limited model in the L series on one precise point: obstacle climbing. A trade-off worth knowing about before buying.

The verdict in short

The L50 Ultra AE scores 8.4/10. At 599 €, it suctions almost as hard as the L50s Pro Ultra (30,000 Pa) for 150 € less, but its obstacle climbing caps out at 2 cm — the weakest in the entire L series according to the manufacturer's specifications. An excellent buy on flat floors, a risky choice where thresholds are pronounced.

Pros

  • 28,000 Pa — high suction for 599 €
  • Entry price into the “Ultra” L series, under the 600 € mark
  • Spinning mops on a double flexible arm, washed at 100 °C
  • AceClean DryBoard station: automatic emptying, washing and drying

Cons

  • Climbing of only 2 cm — the weakest in the L series, according to the manufacturer
  • No automatic refilling of cleaning solution at the station
  • TriCut 3.0 brush, different from the HyperStream dual brush used across the rest of the lineup

Who is it for?

Single-storey homes, without pronounced thresholds or changes of level — recent flats, tiled floors or continuous wooden flooring. On that kind of floor, the L50 Ultra AE offers high suction for a contained price.

Avoid it if…

Your home has raised door thresholds, thick carpets at the edges of rooms, or transitions between levels. According to the manufacturer's specifications, 2 cm of climbing is the lowest figure in the entire L series: those obstacles risk stopping the robot.

Navigation is clearly its weakest criterion, dragged down by 2 cm of climbing that limits the robot's real coverage in homes with uneven floors. Suction, by contrast, stays near the top of the L series.

According to the manufacturer's specifications, the suction gap between the L50 Ultra AE and the L50s Pro Ultra is small (28,000 Pa against 30,000 Pa) for a 150 € price gap. What that means in practice: the L50 Ultra AE is the better deal on suction alone, but it loses clearly on climbing (2 cm against 4 cm) and on brush type.

Against the L40s Pro Ultra, cheaper (549 €) but less powerful (19,000 Pa), the choice narrows: the L50 Ultra AE suctions harder, the L40s Pro Ultra climbs better (4 cm with EasyLeap). It is the nature of your floor, more than the price, that should decide.

Maintenance and consumables

According to the manufacturer's specifications, the AceClean DryBoard station automatically handles dust bin emptying, mop washing and mop drying. The absence of automatic solution refilling means the clean water tank (4.5 L) has to be filled by hand at regular intervals. Also on the user: rinsing the filter (monthly) and replacing the TriCut 3.0 brush and the mops (every 6 to 12 months depending on visible wear).

Frequently asked questions

Does the L50 Ultra AE suction enough for thick carpets?

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, yes: 28,000 Pa is high suction, close to the L50s Pro Ultra’s 30,000 Pa. The weak point is not suction, it is obstacle climbing.

Why is the L50 Ultra AE’s climbing so limited?

At 2 cm, it is the weakest climbing in the entire L series according to the specifications. The L50 Ultra AE has neither VersaLift nor the EasyLeap system found on the L50s Pro Ultra and the L40s Pro Ultra. In practice, a slightly pronounced door threshold can be enough to stop it.

Is the L50 Ultra AE a good buy at 599 €?

Yes, but on one precise condition: a single-storey home without pronounced thresholds. On that kind of floor, its 28,000 Pa make it an excellent deal. With thresholds or thick carpets at the edges of rooms, the L40s Pro Ultra at 549 € climbs better despite weaker suction.

What is the difference between the L50 Ultra AE and the L50s Pro Ultra?

Suction is close (28,000 Pa against 30,000 Pa), but climbing changes category: 2 cm against 4 cm (a two-level step) thanks to the L50s Pro Ultra’s EasyLeap system. For 150 € more, the L50s Pro Ultra climbs better and mops with extendable spinning mops.
